Six months later: How do you feel about building

Do you work in a large public building and did you have to put up with increased security measures as the result of 9/11?

Did the security enhancements consist of walking through a metal detector or having your stuff x-rayed before you could go to work? How did you feel about the hassle back then and what about now?

Besides these improvements what else did your employer do to make you safe at work? And, how was it received by the workers?

And, what's your take if your employer did nothing at all since 9/11?

The bar i work at stopped serving non-whites.

No - i'm just kidding - we never served them before.

No - i'm still kidding - we didn't make any changes, but i think they put it on the big screen which is pretty rare (to have something other than sports!?).

I don't think canadian night clubs are in threat of a huge terrorist attack

Its not a night club - its a pub. And how much we charge for beer- i want to inflict a terrorist attack!

I didn't know pubs had bouncers. In a club in Vancouver a bottle of beer goes for like $5.50

What he meant was "host". Which in America we actually call a "fluffer".

Wow.....
First off, we were all issued updated ID,s.
Secondly, we must drive to the Navy Yard to have our cars searched before we can park in the underground lot.
At the Navy yard a dog goes through the car, the car is driven onto a lift which raises it so that the bottom is visible. An officer/agent walks around the car waving a magnometer up and down and over the entire vehicle. The trunk is secured with a red cable tie marked FPS-POLICE and some random numbers.
At work you drive to the guard post where the trunk seal numbers are re-checked to insure they match. You give your ID to the guard who matches it against the information they already have on file as you wait outside your vehicle while it is again searched. The FPS uniformed police are now augmented by a number of camo clad military police. There are more Jersey barricades than before and some streets around the building have been closed, changed to one way or closed to trucks. Alot of Federal and police vehicles are parked to block alleys and a few are usually parked by the fountain near the front door.
Women on my floor must carry clear plastic purses and the door locks are now accompanied by a keypad as well.
Sometimes you can see the snipers atop the FBI field office across the street but usually you don't.
If for any reason you leave the building and break the trunk seal, you must return to the Navy Yard to have it re-sealed before being re-admitted to the parking garage.
There are a few more things done but I'm not at liberty to say just what they are.

Our parking area is secured via an entrance code, but every Friday "The Shrimp Man" shows up right at the back door, inside the gate. You know the type...beat up truck with a huge "Shrimp" sign on the side, smelling up the parking lot with day old shrimp for sale.

Yeah, I feel real safe.

HAHA! Beers at the pub/bar i work at are $3.86, most bars around here are $3.50!?

I though $3.86 was a lot!
